Rihanna and Chris Brown have taken their secret meet-ups international!
In St. Tropez, France on Sunday, sources tell Us Weekly that the famous exes, who split in 2009 after Brown was charged with assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna, found a way to arrange an undercover meeting.
The “Where Have You Been?” songstress, 24, has been sunning herself throughout the South of France this past week, but made an addendum to her schedule when she got word of Brown’s arrival.
“Rihanna knew Chris was on his way [to St. Tropez] and actually changed her plans late Friday night late after calling Chris from the yacht’s satellite phone,” a source tells Us.
Brown, 23, who chartered an impressive yacht complete with a submarine, two helicopter landing pads and a swimming pool, was seen mooring the boat next to Rihanna’s off of the town’s Pampelonne Beach. The “Turn Up the Music” singer is said to have rented the impressive yacht with Swizz Beatz and Ludacris – for a whopping $400,000 a week — for an upcoming music video.
“Rihanna went and partied hard with the guys on their yacht,” the source says.
Another source adds that Brown’s current girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, was also aboard. “I don’t know if Rihanna even knew that she was there!”
Although Rihanna and Brown avoid stepping out in public together, the singer has gone on the record to defend her contact with her ex, namely, their musical collaboration on a remix of her song “Birthday Cake.”
“It never occurred to me how this was going to be a problem,” she explained to Esquire UK in June. “I thought people were gonna be surprised that we finally did a record together, but I didn’t see how people could think it was a bad thing, you know? In my mind, it was just music . . . I could never see anything wrong with making music.”

Denver leaves 12 dead, 59 wounded: police
‘He said he was the Joker, enemy of Batman,’ Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said, adding that the madman had also painted his hair red. The suspect – identified as James Holmes, 24, a former University of Colorado medical school student – was arrested shortly after the rampage.
Tom Sullivan is embraced by family members outside Gateway High School, where he’s frantically searching for his son Alex, who celebrated his 27th birthday by going to the midnight screening where a crazed gunman opened fire.
AURORA, Colo. — The heavily armed gunman that massacred 12 people at a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” near Denver boasted to cops that he was Batman’s arch nemesis.
“He said he was the Joker, enemy of Batman,” Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said after conferring with his counterpart in Aurora.
“He had his hair painted red,” Kelly added.
The suspect — identified as James Holmes, 24, a former University of Colorado medical school student — was arrested shortly after the rampage at a movie complex about 10 miles east of Denver.
The gunman burst into the packed theater through an emergency door 20 minutes into the movie, set off a canister that emitted tear gas and opened fire, witnesses said.

2012 BET Awards: Beyonce, Chris Brown, Kanye West
and Jay-Z take home trophies; Whitney Houston’s
mother gives emotional tribute

Beyonce and Kim Kardashian both dazzled at the BET awards.
Cissy Houston’s tribute to her late daughter was the emotional highlight of Sunday’s BET Awards, a show that was defined by extended bleeps and the vulgarities that censors failed to catch onstage throughout the night.
Whitney Houston‘s mother gave a rousing performance of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” that left the crowd in tears, including Beyonce and Melanie Fiona.
Kim Kardashian put on a smile at the BET awards and showed off the low-cut back of her white dress.
Mariah Carey opened the tribute with memories of her friend. She was followed by a moving number by Monica. Brandy, heavily influenced by Houston, sang two of the late singer’s hits. Chaka Khan blazed the stage with “I’m Every Woman,” which Houston remade. Gary Houston, Whitney’s brother, also performed.
But the nearly four-hour BET Awards was more like the Bleep Awards, as entire segments of performances from Nicki Minaj to Rick Ross were muted out due to foul language.

Beyonce, Jay-Z and Kanye West seemed to be enjoying themselves while Kim Kardashian looked a bit distant and put out.
It started during the opening number by Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. music group, which included Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz. There were long moments of censored silence when the rappers performed “Mercy,” though not all the offending words were bleeped out. Moments later, Samuel L. Jackson, the show’s host, was joined by Spike Lee as they did a comedic version of Jay-Z and West’s hit song “… In Paris,” to laughs.
“Two distinguished Morehouse men,” Lee joked after the performance, referencing the alma mater of the two.
The censor police also worked overtime when Rick Ross performed with his Maybach Music Group and during Minaj’s performance and acceptance speech for best female hip-hop artist. Minaj’s win was her third consecutive time taking the prize.

Despite sitting far apart during the awards, Kim and Beyonce did give each other a hello at the event.
“I really, really appreciate BET for keeping this category alive, and I appreciate all the female rappers doing their thing, past, present and future,” she said, before uttering an obscenity.
Gospel star Yolanda Adams, who also performed, gently took some of her peers to task as she won best gospel artist, urging them to act mature and use their fame wisely.
“We need all of y’all,” she said. “I’m saying the world needs everyone in this room. Please make sure that you use your gift responsibly, ’cause we’re watching. Our babies are watching, and they want to be like us.”

Mariah Carey opened the tribute to Whitney Houston.
West, who was up for seven awards, was the top nominee. Beyonce was the second most nominated act with six. She won video director of the year (along with Alan Ferguson) and best female R&B artist and thanked the genre and her female influences.
“I fell in love with music by listening to R&B. It’s the core of who I am,” she said, giving special thanks to Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige and “Whitney Houston, my angel.”

Nicki Minaj performs.
When she lost video of the year to Jay-Z and West, she playfully hit her husband and laughed. The joking continued: Moments later, as West was giving his acceptance speech, Jay-Z interrupted him and said: “Excuse me Kanye, I’m gonna let you continue, but …,” and the audience erupted with laughter, recalling West’s infamous interruption of Taylor Swift’s MTV Video Music Awards speech a few years back.
Chris Brown was also a double winner. Kevin Hart — who hosted the awards last year — also won for best actor, Big Sean was named best new artist and Wale and Miguel’s smooth hit “Lotus Flower Bomb” won best collaboration.

Kanye West and Jay Z celebrated at the BET awards.
The tone of the night fluctuated frequently, as the show shifted from hotly anticipated performances to solemn moments to irreverence. Usher performed his groove “Climax,” and Nicki Minaj sported a blonde wig with pink tips as she performed the songs “Champion” and “Beez In the Trap,” which featured 2 Chainz.
The night also featured some tributes to deceased greats: Chante Moore performed a medley of Donna Summer’s hits and Valerie Simpson sang a song in honor of her husband and writing partner Nick Ashford. Don Cornelius, Dick Clark and Hal Jackson were remembered. Even West offered tributes: after his performance, he name-dropped Rodney King and Whitney Houston in a verse that got cheers from the crowd, including his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian.

Presenters included Taraji P. Henson, Kerry Washington and Jamie Foxx, who wore a T-shirt that had a picture of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen killed by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman.
Frankie Beverly featuring Maze were honored with the lifetime achievement award, and they were serenaded with performances by Tyrese, Faith Evans and Joe.
D’Angelo also performed, his first televised performance in years as he attempts a comeback.
Brown also performed in his first televised appearance since the New York City nightclub brawl between his entourage and Drake’s. Brown, his girlfriend, his bodyguard and NBA star Tony Parker were among those injured in the June 14 encounter, where bottles were thrown.
Drake, however, didn’t show, despite being nominated.
Definitely Not Aquaman
As a lifelong Spidey fan, there was little doubt that Garfield would commit himself fully to the part. However, he may have gone overboard. While on set, Garfield dove into a pool wearing the mask, nearly drowning himself in the process. “I had to get wet, and I just kind of dove in and didn’t realize that water on the mask made it impossible to breathe. So I was kind of, like, suffocating. I couldn’t get any oxygen! I water-boarded myself,” says Garfield.
LOS ANGELES — Rodney G. King, whose 1991 videotaped beating by the Los Angeles police became a symbol of the nation’s continuing racial tensions and subsequently led to a week of deadly race riots after the officers were acquitted, was found dead Sunday in a swimming pool at the home he shared with his fiancée in Rialto, Calif. He was 47.
There was no evidence of foul play, the Rialto police said.
Mr. King, whose life was a roller coaster of drug and alcohol abuse, multiple arrests and unwanted celebrity, pleaded for calm during the 1992 riots. More than 55 people were killed and 600 buildings destroyed in the violence.
In a phrase that became part of American culture, he askedat a news conference, “Can we all get along?”
“People look at me like I should have been like Malcolm X or Martin Luther King or Rosa Parks,” he told The Los Angeles Times in April. “I should have seen life like that and stay out of trouble, and don’t do this and don’t do that. But it’s hard to live up to some people’s expectations.”
Mr. King published a memoir in April detailing his struggles, saying in several interviews that he had not been able to find steady work.
He said he had once blamed politicians and lawyers “for taking a battered and confused addict and trying to make him into a symbol for civil rights.” But he was unable to escape that role. On Sunday, the Rev. Al Sharpton, said in a statement, “History will record that it was Rodney King’s beating and his actions that made America deal with the excessive misconduct of law enforcement.”
And more recently, Mr. King seemed to embrace the role himself, saying that his beating enabled others to succeed and “made the world a better place.”
“Obama, he wouldn’t have been in office without what happened to me and a lot of black people before me,” he told The Los Angeles Times. “He would never have been in that situation, no doubt in my mind. He would get there eventually, but it would have been a lot longer. So I am glad for what I went through. It opened the doors for a lot of people.”
Though Mr. King wrote in his memoir that he still drank and used drugs occasionally, he insisted that, with his fiancée, Cynthia Kelley, who had been a juror in a civil suit he brought against the City of Los Angeles, he was on the road to reclaiming his life.
“I realize I will always be the poster child for police brutality,” he said, “but I can try to use that as a positive force for healing and restraint.”
Mr. King said he was essentially broke, though he said he received an advance for his book, “The Riot Within: My Journey from Rebellion to Redemption,” published to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the riots.
He still walked with a limp and several of his scars were visible. His best outlets for relaxation, he said, were fishing and swimming.
The police in Rialto, 50 miles east of Los Angeles, said they received a 911 call at 5:25 a.m. Sunday from Ms. Kelley, who reported finding him in the pool that Mr. King had built himself, inscribing the date of his beating and the start of the riots in two tiles. Emergency personnel tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:11 a.m.
Capt. Randy De Anda said that Mr. King had been at the pool throughout the early morning and had been talking to Ms. Kelley, who was in the house at the time. Neighbors reported hearing music, talking and crying before hearing a splash.
A pair of sandals was still sitting next to the pool, visible from a neighbor’s backyard. Mr. King had apparently started to build a new fence to keep neighbors from looking in, but never completed it. One neighbor said that Mr. King mowed her family’s lawn weekly and that she often saw him swimming late at night.
On the night when the police beating occurred, March 3, 1991, Mr. King had been out on parole on a 1989 robbery conviction.
He was driving about 100 miles per hour when he and two passengers were pulled over by the Los Angeles police. After he attempted to escape on foot — afraid, he would later say, that he would be in violation of his parole — he was caught by officers. The 6-foot-3 Mr. King was struck with batons and kicked dozens of times, and hit with Tasers.
“It felt like I was an inch from death,” he said in recent interviews.
Video of the beating, recorded by George Holliday, a resident of a nearby apartment building, was repeatedly broadcast on television, inflaming anger over what was seen as a pattern of aggression and abuse by the Los Angeles police toward blacks and Hispanics. After intense public outcry, four officers were brought to trial.
Many people thought the video alone would lead to the conviction of the officers. But on April 29, 1992, a jury in Simi Valley, Calif., which included no black jurors, acquitted three of the officers, and a mistrial was declared for the fourth.
It touched off riots in South Los Angeles, among the worst in the nation’s history, resulting in damage estimated at $1 billion.
The four white officers charged with beating Mr. King — Stacey Koon, Theodore Briseno, Timothy Wind and Laurence Powell — were indicted in the summer of 1992 on federal civil rights charges. Officers Koon and Powell were convicted and sentenced to two years in prison, and Mr. King was awarded $3.8 million in damages.
The Los Angeles police chief, Daryl Gates, resigned under pressure amid criticism that officers were slow to respond to the riots. He died of cancer in 2010.
Mr. King spent much of the money he received on legal fees. He also bought cars and houses, including the modest house in which he lived, and invested in a rap music label called Straight Alta-Pazz, which failed.
But much of his life was consumed by tabloid drama. He spent the subsequent years in and out of jail and rehabilitation centers, mostly for drug and alcohol abuse. He was arrested multiple times for driving under the influence, and spent short periods in prison in the late 1990s for assaulting his former wife and his daughter. In recent years he had appeared on the television shows “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House” on VH1.
Rodney Glen King was born on April 2, 1965, in Sacramento, the youngest of five children. He grew up in Altadena, near Pasadena, raised by his mother, Odessa King, and an alcoholic father, Ronald King, who died at 42.
Mr. King was married twice. Survivors include his daughters, Lora and Candice King, and a third daughter whose name was not immediately available.
In an interview in April, Mr. King said he understood how posterity would view him.
“It’s taken years to get used to the situation I’m in in life and the weight it holds. One of the cops in the jail said: ‘You know what? People are going to know who you are when you’re dead and gone. A hundred years from now, people still going to be talking about you.’ It’s scary, but at the same time it’s a blessing.”
Ian Lovett contributed reporting from Rialto, Calif., and Whitney Boyd and Michael Schwirtz from New York.
That ’70s Show’ arrest yields a classic celebrity mug shot
You gotta give Lisa Robin Kelly this much: When the former “That ’70s Show” actress was under arrest, she managed a smile for the camera.
That’s a smile despite what was sure to be a fairly atrocious mug shot — and, much more seriously, despite her arrest on a felony charge of corporal injury upon a spouse. The actress is shown below in happier (or at least lovelier) times.
Details are sketchy on the incident that led to the arrest Saturday. And the identity of Kelly’s spouse is unclear.
In 2010, Kelly had another mug-shot photo op after beingarrested for driving while intoxicated – a charge to which she pleaded guilty. She was sentenced to 12 months of unsupervised probation and ordered to pay a fine, according to TMZ.
Kelly, now 42, played Eric Forman’s (Topher Grace) sexy blond sister, Laurie, in “That ’70s Show.” According to IMDb, she left the show in the third season; her character planned “to attend beauty school.”
She was “invited back” by producers at the end of the fifth season and was seen in a few more episodes but was replaced at the beginning of the sixth. Christina Moore then filled the sexy-blond role on the series that starred the likes of Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Wilmer Valderrama.
After her “70s Show” episodes in 2003, Kelly’s lone screen credit, according to IMDb, was a short comedic film in 2005, “The Food Chain: A Hollywood Scarytale.”
In the video below, Kelly talks boxing with Christina Applegate on “Married With Children.”

Bobby Brown was arrested by law enforcement officers at 12:20 PM PST Monday in Reseda, CA for suspicion of driving under the influence.
The R&B singer was originally stopped by officers for talking on his cell phone while driving, but was subsequently given a field sobriety test and taken into custody.
The 43-year-old ex-husband of the late Whitney Houston is currently in custody at the Van Nuys jail. It is not yet known what substance cops suspect Brown had been using.
Brown already has one DUI conviction on his record from a 1996 arrest in Georgia, for which he spent eight days in jail.
Ashton Kutcher has mutated! Quick! Call Professor X! Shield him from Magneto! Save the cheerleader actor, save the world!
Okay, now that we got that nerd moment of out the way…
Following a visit with Demi Moore before she left rehab, Ashton was spotted with a very different lady on Sunday afternoon. Laughing and chatting away, Ashton spent time with “friend” and screenwriterLorene Scafaria, hitting up the popular game spot, Ultrazone with some friends. While they kept some distance from each other and there was no visible signs of PDA, sources are still claiming that Lorene is Ashton’s new gal and that their fling is fully endorsed by their mutual friends.
But let’s get down to what is really happening in this picture. What the hell is growing on Ashton’s face? Has he stopped bathing? Is that one hell of a black eye?
Oh! We see it now! It’s facepaint! He’s recapturing his youth with a little finger painting on his face. How … adorable? Juvenile? Precocious?
We’re happy to hear that even though they’re obviously not in the best place, he could everything aside to be supportive during her time of need.
Although Ashton Kutcher has yet to comment publicly on Demi Mooreand her rehab stint health crisis, the actor apparently has visited his estranged wife since she was first hospitalized, for the sake of her daughters – especially Rumer, with whom he remains close!
Now, we’re hearing that Demi did NOT try to keep Cameron out of the party! Not only that, but a source is saying that Ms. Diaz was actually in attendance at the event.

Welcome to the Smart Set. Every morning we bring you the gossip coverage, filtered. Today: Also: Monaco’s Prince Pierre Casiraghi might have started the New York City bar fight in which his jaw was broken, Chelsea Handler’s famous friends supposedly don’t care for her, and former Village Voice film critic Jim Hoberman has a new job.
This is sad: David Geffen has split up with Jeremy Lingvall, his boyfriend of six years. A source says the romance had “simply run its course” and that “[t]here is nobody else involved,” which makes us feel a little better Geffen confirmed the split last night, but wouldn’t provide additional details. Page Six notes the two “had long been inseparable despite a 40-year age difference between them.” (The item also refers to Lingvall as “indisputably handsome,” a characterization we very much enjoyed for reasons we can’t quite articulate.) [Page Six]
Monaco’s Prince Pierre Casiraghi ended up with a broken jaw and facial lacerations following a bar fight in New York’s meatpacking district on Saturday, but it’s unclear whether Grace Kelly’s grandson or Andy Hock, the former nightclub owner he traded blows with, was in the wrong. Hock was the only person to be arrested following the melee, but Hock indicated in an interview Monday he was just “defending a bevy of supermodels” from the prince. Hock’s lawyer is already describing the prince and his friends as “wealthy barons from Europe” who show up in American bars and act like jerks. The prince’s friends say Hock “slammed [Caspian] for no reason” when he approached his table and then did the same thing to Greek shipping heir (and noted Paris Hilton ex) Starvos Niarchos. One incident witnesses on both sides can confirm is that “a friend of Casiraghi grabbed a bottle of Grey Goose vodka from a nearby table and tried to crack it over Hock’s head.” [New York Daily News andNew York Post]
A source who attended this week’s SNL after-party insists – insists – that Jessica Biel was showing off the fancy, as-yet-unphotographed new engagement ring Justin Timberlake gave her. Kristen Wiig was particularly taken by it, according to a source, who says Wiig “loved the ring and chatted her up about it.” When it was time to emerge to see the press, the ring was hidden away, somewhere. And so the legend of its shininess and whether Timberlake has a matching ring with the same message inscribed –possibly in Sanskrit on the inside of the band — will only grow. [Gatecrasher]
A source says that Bobby Brown wants to send daughter Bobbi Kristina to rehab to help her get over the death of her mother Whitney Houston. The source says “Brown is searching for “professional help to get her through the grieving process without falling back on alcohol or drugs to mask her pain.” Bobbi Kristina was hospitalized the day after her mother’s death, and was also hospitalized following Houston’s funeral. A source told The Daily Beast that after the funeral, Bobbi Kristina was found at a hotel “getting high.” [Radar]

Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston are supposed to be true blue friends with Chelsea Handler — she of the many memoirs and jokes that would have killed in 1994 — but apparently they’re not. A source says Aniston and Witherspoon “are “terrified of [Handler] and kiss her ass because they want to stay on her good side.” It’s a sad state of affairs when Chelsea Handler — who’s hoping manufactured awfulness will somehow make her America’s drunk-driving sweetheart – is capable of putting a real movie star and a real TV star (both of whom have shown the ability to be funny and appealing without playing characters who constantly “tell it like it is”) on their heels. [Us Weekly]
J. Hoberman, the recently ousted senior film critic for The Village Voice, has found gainful employment, as chief flm critic for ARTINFO. As titles go, chief beats senior every time, so these new people clearly know what they’re doing, though Hoberman cautions the new position “isn’t a full-time gig in the sense that TheVoice was,” and that he’ll continue to freelance and blog. For years, Minnie Driver wouldn’t say who the father of her 3-year-old son was, which not unreasonably had people wondering if he was famous or married or both. Nope, she tells The Observer. Complete opposite, in fact. Non-famous person whose anonymity she says she wanted to protect. “We weren’t together and he wasn’t directly in the business,”Driver explains, “so I chose to protect him and not have a rain of publicity…It’s ridiculous. He’s not famous. There’s no big story.” Minnie Driver, you confound and befuddle us. [The New York Observer]
Whitney Houston was found in the bathtub of a Beverly Hills hotel yesterday … with her face underwater … people close to Whitney tell TMZ.
According to our sources, her stylist, hairdresser and two bodyguards were among the people in the room at the time. We’re told they became worried about Whitney because she had been in the bathroom for over an hour and it was time to start getting ready for the Clive Davis party.
Our sources say they began to knock on the door and there was no answer. We’re told the hairdresser, who is female, went in to check on Whitney. She immediately screamed and, according to our sources, one of the bodyguards came running in and pulled her out of the tub.
We’re told Whitney’s face was below the water and her legs were up … like she had slid down the back of the tub.
According to our sources, her body was very cold and the bodyguard attempted CPR. That’s when hotel security was called.
Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, but Whitney was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM.
It’s a pretty safe bet that Miramonte Elementary School’s Mark Berndt won’t be taking home any teacher of the year awards. He’d have a hard time accepting one anyway, what with him spending the rest of his life behind bars for force-feeding children semen.
Mark Berndt, 61, was arrested Mondayand charged with lewd acts on more than 20 children aged 7 to 10 years old, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.A teacher with three decades of experience at Miramonte Elementary School in South Los Angeles, Berndt was busted after a film processor discovered 40 prints of the dastardly acts and turned them over to authorities. The photos, along with more sickening pics recovered from Berndt’s home, show the defenseless students bound and blindfolded with giant Madagascar cockroaches crawling on them in a classroom, authorities said.Several girls were photographed with a blue plastic spoon filled with an unknown clear white liquid up to their mouths as if they were going to ingest the substance, cops said.
Investigators later recovered a blue plastic spoon and an empty container from the trash in Berndt’s classroom. Both tested positive for Berndt’s semen, authorities said.
Mark Berndt: Total creep.
Parents, while you’d like to think it is unnecessary to casually question your 7-year-olds if they’ve been tied up and fed semen in class lately, it certainly couldn’t hurt to ask occasionally.
At least 26 children were discovered in similar roach-semen-bondage scenes in close to 400 photographs. It looks like Mr. Berndt can kiss that pension goodbye! Oh, and his personal freedom as well.
Thank you, UB reader Catherine for both sending this story our way, and also giving us nightmares for the rest of the week.

A 40-year-old man died Sunday after he collapsed near the finish line of the Los Angeles Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon, according to authorities and the footrace’s medical director.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss, and our heartfelt sympathies go out to the runner’s family and loved ones,” said Dr. Lewis Maharam, medical director of the Competitor’s Group Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon races held around the country.
“The family has asked for their privacy during this difficult time,” Maharam said. “Out of respect for their request, we will have no further comment.” Race officials declined to release the man’s name.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Olympic Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles near the finish line of the race around 9:30 a.m., about two hours into the event. They performed CPR on the man before taking him to a nearby hospital.
Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said the incident was the only serious health issue associated with the race that he was aware of. No further details were immediately available.
The race, with at least 8,000 runners and walkers, began and ended at L.A. Live, following a course that passed the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and crossed the 6th Street bridge, reaching Boyle Avenue before doubling back.
